What's my square footage for homeowner's insurance policy?

I have a split level home with 1150 square feet of living area. In addition, there is 280 sq. feet of a finished basement that is NOT below grade and on the same level as the 2-car garage (living area above garage). From what I understand, the total square footage for homeowner's insurnace policy would be 1150 + 280 = 1430. Is this correct? I've also been told that the 400 square feet of the garages needs to be tacked on but I figured the living area above the garage (included in the 1150) covers this. Thanks!
